Wikimania 2018 will be hosted at the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel (-33.91579/18.42362), located in the heart of Cape Town.
Airport Transfers
Wikimania 2018 has partnered with Wow Cape Town Travel and Tours to provide airport transfer service for those attending Wikimania. A brief description is provided below. Please see the package offer at the Wow Tours website for more information and to book your transfer.
Airport transfers are US$45 (approximately R607.5 ZAR/€38.25 EUR) per person, which provides round-trip travel from the airport to the venue on your day of arrival, and back again on your departure date. They offer a “Meet & Greet” service with staff at the airport, ready to welcome each person. This might be a good, safe option for first-time visitors to be welcomed, escorted to their transportation. Clients are asked to provide the time, date, and flight number of both their arriving and departing flights.

Airport Ground Transportation
MyCiti Shuttle
Is a bus rapid transit system that links the airport with the city centre, concretely, the Civic Centre bus station located on Hertzog Boulevard.
Buses departs every 30 minutes and run from 05.30 (weekdays)/06:30 (weekends) to 22.00h.
The cost of the ticket is calculated by the travelled distance between the airport and the final destination. Despite the km/rate, there are various charges depending on the season of the year:
- A single-use card from the airport to any part of the MyCiti system is R100, otherwise get a reusable card for R35 and one of the following...
- Mover in Saver fare period - R63.10 ZAR (approximately US$ 4.67/€4 EUR)
- Mover in Peak fare period - R69.60 ZAR (approximately US$ 5.16/€4.41 EUR)
- Standard in Peak or Saver fare periods - R97.80 ZAR (approximately US$ 7.24/€6.2 EUR)
On arrival at Civic Centre, you can transfer at no additional cost to local bus 105 which takes you to Strand bus stop, between the Cape Sun and Sun Square City Bowl hotels (closer to the latter). If you want to go elsewhere than the city centre, you may pay slightly more - see:

Uber
An Uber ride from the airport to city center is R175 ZAR (approximately US$ 12.96/€11.1 EUR) and R250 ZAR (approximately US$ 18.52/€15.85 EUR) depending on traffic.
Taxify
Taxify also operates in Cape Town with a similar service to Uber.

Specific Directions
From the Airport to the Venue, by Car:
- Take the Airport Ring Rd
- Slight left onto Airport Approach Rd
- Merge onto Settlers Way / N2
- After roughly 10 km, keep right to continue on Philip Kgosana Dr / N2
- After 1km, keep right again to continue on Nelson Mandela Blvd / N2, and continue for 3km more.
- Take the Strand Street exit
- Merge onto Newmarket St
- Continue onto Strand St
- The Cape Southern Sun Hotel will be on your left, on the corner of Strand St and Burg St
From the Airport to the Venue, by Bus:
Please be aware that this route requires roughly 15 minutes of walking.
- Take the A01 to the Civic Centre, run by MyCITI Bus Service, from the Station right outside the main terminal building. Be sure to purchase a myconnect card BEFORE boarding (the MiCity web page says "Once-off users can get a single-trip card from kiosks and vending machines at selected stations for R30, or R100 including the Airport."). Buses leave every thirty minutes, on the hour and on the half hour.
- The bus is a 30 minute ride with only one stop
- Disembark the bus at the Civic Centre stop
- Head northwest (Table Mountain will be on your left) on Hertzog Blvd toward D.F. Malan St
- Turn left onto Heerengracht St
- Note the Jan van Riebeeck Statue in the park on your right as you approach the roundabout!
- At the roundabout, take the third exit street to continue heading southwest onto Adderly St
- Turn right onto Strand St
- The Cape Southern Sun Hotel will be on your left, on the corner of Strand St and Burg St
If you would like to shorten the walk to only five minutes, take the following alternate route:
- Take the A01 to the Civic Centre, as above
- Take the 102 one stop (roughly 3 minutes)
- Disembark the bus at Adderly St
- Head southwest on Adderly St
- Turn right onto Strand St
- The Cape Southern Sun Hotel will be on your left, on the corner of Strand St and Burg St
From the Railway Station to the Venue:
The Cape Town railway station is located at the intersection of Adderly St and Strand St, two blocks southeast of the hotel
- Exit the railway station at Adderly St and Strand St
- Head northwest on Strand St
- The Cape Southern Sun Hotel will be on your left, on the corner of Strand St and Burg St
