WikiMania Ubuntu Township Tour

Cape Town has a deep cultural and political history. Group up with other attendees for a tour that will include District 6, visiting a traditional healer and an overview of Cape Town from apartheid and post-apartheid. WikiMania Ubuntu Indigenous South African Food Dining Experience

Experience traditional South African and African food with a modern twist. In this tour you will be taken to a local restaurant owned in the oldest township in South Africa owned by a mother and daughter team. You will enjoy delicacies fit for both meat eaters and vegans like samp in potato puree, braised kudu shanks, ostrich stroganoff, amongst other ubuntu-licious dishes. Tour includes a guide and transport to and from the Cape Sun Southern Sun.

Location of the Red Hop-on Hop-off bus stop (red star) on Long Street and meeting point for the Free Walking tours on Greemarket Square (green star) in relation to the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel where Wikimania is taking place.

The conference venue is closely situated to the Red Hop-on Hop-off main bus stop on Long Street, just . The Red Bus network has 30 stops which can take visitors to over 50 sites across Cape Town. It is a great way to visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or the penguins in Simon's Town. See the map on the right for the location of the bus stop. Tickets can be bought there.

 
Guides from each of the two free walking tour companies at Greenmarket Square on Burg Street, just two blocks from the main conference area.

Another option is to take one of the two different free walking tours. The tour guides meet at Greenmarket Square which is just down the road (on Burg Street) from the main conference venue. The walking tours depart at 10:30, 11:00, 14:00, and 16:20.
